COURSE DESCRIPTION

**This course has been designed for Junior & Senior students and covers sensitive topics**

            Welcome to Contemporary Global Issues.  This course is intended to be an examination of current topics and trends that are affecting the world.  We will be spending time studying a wide variety of topics including elections, conservation efforts, medical research & advancements, sporting events, technology, human rights, etc. The goal of the course will be to develop a deeper understanding about these issues and informed opinions about them.  

RESPONSIBILITIES

If you are having trouble with the material, COME SEE ME, and we will discuss the problem and create solutions so you can reach your potential. I am usually available by 7:30 in the morning and until 3:30 in the afternoon. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND a three ring binder (one inch size or larger) for this course.

GRADING

  • Homework- Homework will mostly be written responses to articles or prompts. Research skills will be used to develop an understanding of events that can be further discussed in class. Assignments can be found and submitted on Google Classroom.
  • Class Participation- You are expected to participate in class discussions.  Questions, observations, and informed opinions are all welcome during class. The more you contribute to class, the more you will get out of this course. There will be a grade in each quarter based on participation.
  • Projects- There will be various graded projects and group work assignments throughout the semester.
    • Student Choice Days- You will be responsible for providing the topic for class at least once during the semester. More information will be provided.
  • Discrepancies- Keep all of your graded materials.  If there is a discrepancy in your grade, I expect you to be able to produce the grade/grades in question. 
  • Grades- All grades will be determined by points earned/points available.

EXPECTATIONS

The more you contribute to class, the more you will get out of this course. My elective courses were designed to be more interactive and based around discussions in class. Questions, observations, and informed opinions are all welcome during class. Be respectful of your classmates, and we will be able to enjoy much more class discussion of the material. Take responsibility for your accomplishments and mistakes.
